Noirvember and Founding Member Details
Hard to believe it’s almost been a month. We launch our first Journey this week and have a Founding Member deadline.

Over the weekend, we came up with some great stuff regarding the upcoming journeys, podcast, website, and when we start onboarding others who want to lead a Journey. We are affectionately calling them “guides” for now. You’ll see updates throughout the remainder of the year.
To start with, the deadline to subscribe as a Founding Member is 11/7/2023. After that, all subscription tiers will change and Founding Member will likely be replaced by something else. We are calling the people who subscribed as founding in our first month as OGFM. That’s because you really helped us kick this off, and when we first shared the idea, we barely had a website. In fact, we still barely have a website, but that will change soon. In gratitude, we will forever “grandfather” the OGFMs for supporting us from the start. If you’ve been on the fence about subscribing as a Founding Member, or are considering upgrading your current subscription, now is the time!
Founding Members will also be invited to a call in the near future. We’ll be able to share more of our plans with you, and honestly we want your feedback. We want to know what you will find enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.
As for our upcoming Noirvember Journey, it begins on November 1st. We will divide it up in four segments called “Chapters.” Each Chapter will follow a consistent format. Previously, we defined each segment of the Journey a “week” but with the busy holiday season ahead, we want to keep things flexible. Which is also why we are not sticking with the same day and time for each Chapter, at least for the first two Journeys.
We will be offering a 7-day free trial for our Noirvember Journey. If after the trial (which will cover the first Chapter) you decide it’s not for you, that’s cool! But we hope you’ll stick around for the entire Journey. Since it’s our first one and we’re in the early days of CineJourneys, the registration is only $10! (Free for OGFMs, of course.) Please reach out to us if you’d like the free trial and we’ll get that set up for you.
Here are the films we’ll be watching. We also discussed these on the recent Noirvember episode , and the edited audio will go up on 11/1.
Chapter One: Exploring Proto and Gothic Noir
Marcel Carné’s Port of Shadows (1938)
Charles Vidor’s Ladies in Retirement (1941)
Chapter Two: Glamorous Hollywood Noir
Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity (1944)
John M. Stahl’s Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious (1946)*
Chapter Three: Post-War Cynicism
Nicholas Ray’s In a Lonely Place (1950)
Ida Lupino’s The Hitch-Hiker (1953) & The Bigamist (1953)
Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing (1956)
Chapter Four: Neo-Noir
Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets (1973)*
Carl Franklin’s One False Move (1992)
Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Big Lebowski (1998)
*some might not consider these noir films, but there’s definitely an influence we feel is worth exploring.
We will record at least one more podcast on the subject, and possibly another. We have a special guest lined up for the episode that we are recording this week.
At the end of each Chapter, we’ll have a discussion call on Zoom. We’ll also have message boards, additional media about these films, and we will wrap the month up. That wrap-up most likely will happen in December, which will have a slight impact on the timing of the Holiday Films Journey. But don’t worry! We have some creative ideas about December that we will share later.
So much more to come. We can’t wait for it to happen!
Until then, it’s straight down the line.
Love that you added Lupino to the list.
